In my last post, I called out to all survivors of domestic abuse to take note of a new project brought to us by When I Became Free. This week it launched and I have more information to offer – and a new plea for all survivors of abuse who would like to use their experiences to make a difference for others.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month so it debuted with an edition dedicated to domestic abuse. But, the paper will cover all aspects of abuse. There is a section dedicated to lives lost to abuse as well as articles offering ideas for healing from the after-effects of abuse. Survivors will be sharing their stories.
What Will It Offer…
When we hear stories of survivors who have finally escaped, we also hear all the whispers asking, “Why did she stay?” Our survivors will give you their own answers to that question.
The goal of this weekly newspaper is to give people a better understanding of abuse and the way it affects people and to offer ways to heal from the after-effects.
What Can You Do…
I strongly encourage everyone to subscribe. I ask all of you survivors to share your stories. We care, whether the abuse was sexual, physical, mental or emotional or any combination of these. If you want to remain anonymous, it can be done. If you want help writing up your story, it can be arranged as well.
There is healing in telling your story. You won’t be told to keep it a secret or hide it. Nobody will tell you to just get over it. When I Became Free encourages telling your story as often as you need to until you feel free again.
Even if you aren’t ready to tell your story to the world yet (perfectly understandable), but you do want to share it with someone else who has been there, send an email to me at shell@thewriteempath.com.
