To those of you who are not new to me, this may sound strange. But, for all the writing I do, I’ve never used a guided journal.
A guided journal is more than just another journal. Most journals are just empty books to jot down quick notes or emotions. But, a guided journal has prompts to get your creative juices flowing.
I’ve never needed a nudge when it came to writing in my journals (or talking for that matter!) I’m usually a rather loquacious person. There’s so much flowing through my head that it’s hard to know when to stop writing.
But, a few weeks ago I was looking at the different journals for sale when I was shopping. One of them caught my eye and I picked it up. It was a guided journal, so I nearly put it right back, not interested in it.
Something prompted me to open it anyway to glance at a few pages. Suddenly I found myself interest, even intrigued.
Each page had a quote and a writing prompt related to the quote. And the prompts were well thought out to stir up some deep thinking.
I bought the journal and I love it. Although the ideas for contemplation are not rare or unusual, they are things well worth contemplating for bettering your life.
Some of the prompts were simple questions like “what makes you happy and why?” But, others delved deeper into who you are at the core and what makes you tick, like analyzing how you handle obstacles or what you have learned from the trials in your life.
This one guided journal has made me reconsider the benefit of using a guided journal. It isn’t necessarily that I need one. I’m still quite wordy and have no problem filling pages with all the thoughts in my head.
But, I think using a prompt from the guided journal might help turn my tired old thoughts in a different direction. It may help with making personal discoveries I may never have unearthed.
And, learning about yourself is a good thing.
Here’s a link to the journal that inspired me: A Journey Within.
