Throughout the days of my life, occasionally I get flashes of brilliant thought. Once in a while, I write them down to remember them. Other times I hope I’ll remember them, but I often forget them.
But today, I want to share just the randomness of some of these thoughts. They may be brilliant little tidbits that are just common sense to most people. Others may find them just dull reminders of life in general. Hopefully, someone can learn something from the words I share.
You can’t help people who aren’t willing to help themselves. No matter how much you want to help someone, if they aren’t willing to do the work to help themselves you are just wasting your own time and energy. After all, it’s their life, not yours.
If you repeatedly try to help someone and it seems like nothing is getting better, the truth is that they most likely are just using you. They aren’t putting in the effort that is required to use your step up to better their life. If you continue to help without their effort all you are doing is enabling their laziness.
You can try to give advice to those who ask for it, but most of the time they won’t listen anyway. They are only hoping you will validate something they already believe and want to hear from you. If someone asks you for advice, determine if they really want to hear advice, or if they just want you to tell them what they want to hear.
Nobody else in the world is on the same page as you regarding beliefs. Everyone has their own set of beliefs about different things and not all of our checkboxes will match. We can still love and respect each other despite not being all on the exact same page in our lives.
For instance, all Christians are similar but not all are exactly the same in what they believe. But, all Christians are together in one group, a group that does not match with atheists or agnostics, or pagans. I used religious beliefs as an example, but it goes for all groups of people. It’s time for us to unite with others despite our differences and pray that we all find the truth as we go along our journey.
There are more good people in the world than we realize. Humans naturally want to be good and loving toward others of our kind. To bring out the smile in others, be the first to smile at them. Sometimes that first smile can start a cascade of goodwill throughout the day.
Sometimes it’s best to keep quiet when you know something and play dumb about it. More often than not you will get more information than you had and be better equipped if you have to come to some kind of decision regarding that situation.
Good deeds are not forgotten by those who receive them. Even if you think someone has forgotten something you did for them, years later they may suddenly come back with a reminder and a thank you that you never expected.
If the time is right, nothing will stop it. If the time is wrong, nothing you can do will make it happen. Trust that everything happens when it is supposed to.
Brilliant thoughts for a dull winter day.
