How many times have you felt all ambitious about changing your life? Something inspired you to make plans to start a new diet, or take a chance and do something you never have done before and you ran with it. Maybe you woke up feeling inspired by a dream, confident that you finally know what your life path should be.
If you are like me it has happened many times over in your life. It has in mine. I’ll read an inspiring book about a woman who beat incredible odds and changed the world, and I will convince myself that I can do that. I ponder what must be done for me to make a difference in my world and begin to make plans to do all kinds of things.
It’s great while we are in the energy. The inspiration lasts long enough for us to begin something new, but never seems to carry us through to see real progress. Something always seems to happen to slow us down, or cause us to fall off the interstate we were racing on. Maybe illness struck or a really bad day came along and we lost our energy. However it happens, we lose our focus.
How do we hold onto the energy? What can we do to hold that motivation to keep on going? I wish I had a perfect answer.
The truth is, the answer is different for all of us. What motivates me might be just the thing to cause you to give up. There is no perfect answer for all of us, but there is a perfect answer for any of us.
What inspires you? Really think about what motivates you. Will it help to have a best friend push you along and keep you on track? Maybe you prefer someone to have to answer to if you fall down so they can help you get back on your way again.
Affirmations are a good way to help keep our focus on our goals. Every morning we can take five minutes in front of a mirror and remind ourselves of our best points and our goals. Little sticky note reminders throughout the house are some things other people do to remind them of a particular goal they are working to meet. Another good idea might be to set phone reminders for certain activities related to your goal.
One thing is certain – if we do not do something, nothing will be done; nothing will change. One day you wake up and realize you are 47 years old with nothing to show for your life. Each day just followed another with nothing accomplished except to eat, sleep, clean and go to work. There is so much more to life to experience.
What would you like to do with your life? It’s never too late to start. Take the time for yourself and figure out what it is you want out of life. Then figure out what it will take to get there. Set little goals to reach the big goals.
Your life is what you make of it. Nobody else should tell you how to live your life, or what you should do with your life. Not family, not friends, not even a spouse or a partner. It’s YOUR life.
Start your life TODAY.
