Do you follow the crowd, the fashion trends, the public opinions of social media? Is blending in with those around you a priority? Do you feel a need to belong? Or do you step back and allow yourself your own thoughts? Can you allow yourself to be different? Are you a free-thinker?
It seems there are a lot of zombies in the world today. The people are not the gray dead zombies of the horror flicks, but rather living breathing people without the ability to think for themselves. These are people willing to follow the road of public opinion blindly. People such as these believe everything the news tells them without questioning whether it might be slanted or intentionally manipulative. They never question anything and believe all that they are told.
It’s hard to stand alone against the status quo. An old phrase says, “You can’t fight city hall.” Personally I don’t buy it. Maybe alone you can’t fight city hall. But you don’t have to be alone. You just have to be courageous enough to be the first to speak out alone.
Standing alone against a crowd takes courage. It takes confidence in your convictions. One person can change the world. One person can dare to be different – unafraid to stand out instead of blending in. But, once one person stands out, others find the courage to join in. As more lose their fear the numbers increase. It just takes one. Who will be that one?
The world is full of people who blend in. Most people these days follow trends blindly, thinking that it’s necessary to blend in, to belong to what seems to be the majority. Have you ever stopped to think how these trends begin? They can begin with one person doing something unique enough others begin to copy them. One person being different can make a difference.
More people these days are waking up to the corruption in high places. The veil of secrecy is falling on much of the hidden activity behind the scenes the general public was unaware of. Alternative news sites are getting bolder about revealing activities that have been taking place for years without public knowledge.
Slowly it seems more people are taking notice of things not being right. Suddenly they recognize that society as a whole seems to have turned topsy-turvy and is upside down and inside out. Things that are wrong are considered right, true and good. Things which are right have been criminalized or shamed.
The age of electronics may have advanced us technologically, but it sent us back to the dark ages as far as being a loving, caring society. We are disconnected from our humanity and are plugged into the general electrical box of today’s world, losing our souls. We are charged up on computers, cell phones and video games. There is barely a sterile connection with other beings called humans, if we can even find that. We are all just cords in a hub, no different than the next.
What happens if you unplug; if you let your electronic juice run out and you find that the world looks a little different than what they taught you? It’s a scary thing to take a first step. Awkwardness seems to overflow and frighten us into returning to our safe place.
It’s time we ask ourselves, do we want to be like everyone else? Do we want to blend in, be unnoticed, unrecognizable in a crowd? Or do we want to be the one remembered when all else is forgotten?
Why not take that first step? Dare to be different. Start slow if you must. Do something little to stand out and be noticed. Inspire someone with your courage to buck the expectations of society. Be the moon in a sky full of stars.
The biggest names in history would not be remembered if they never dared to be different.
