My blog topics have been all over the road lately. Faithful readers checking in every Monday and Thursday morning never know what they will find when the blog automatically publishes. When I began this blog I wasn’t sure what direction it was going to take. There wasn’t really a target audience other than writers, women and empaths. That leaves a pretty large group of people out there.
Most of my readers have been family members and friends hoping to find updates on my life in recent days. Or maybe they want to see if I reveal dirty family secrets. Some of the readers have been searching for anything they can use against me. Still others have stumbled across a post in a search result and read others that were related to their search term. Usually it is “narcissistic” they use to search for.
Most of the feedback I have received from my readers has been in the form of praise for my courage in speaking out about things many people keep hidden in the dark. While I am grateful for the feedback, I don’t need the praise. That isn’t what I write for. Rather, I write either to enlighten others about things I have learned along my life journey, or I write to show companionship to those who walk the same path but feel alone.
Those who know me recognize that I am not one to hide behind a wall when there is something important to say. I don’t look for a fight, and in fact would prefer not to fight at all. However, I also do not back down when I am confronted with a situation that needs changing – even if what needs to be changed is myself. This blog has shown how I am changing. If you read from beginning to now (that’s a lot of posts!) it is possible to sense a change in attitude and mood. I have also written posts with what I hope is positive motivation to help others change as well.
Ultimately my most faithful of my readers is me. When I sit at the computer keyboard the person I am writing to most often is myself. I write what I need to hear, focusing on changes I need to work on in my own life. I’ve always done this to some degree. The only difference now, is that I do it for the world to read if they want to. There are a world of readers out there who have a door into my head.
I think in most cases writers write to themselves. We write what we want to read. Or maybe we write to help ourselves think. Instead of talking aloud to ourselves we write the words to ourselves. Putting them down in black and white (or red or green font if we so desire) helps to etch them into our memory.
I’m just a backyard blogger with a lot on my mind and a willingness to share it with the world. I hope in time readers from all over will find their way here and find something they enjoy reading. In the meantime, I will continue to write whatever crosses my mind for the week. And I encourage everyone else to do the same.
Writing is good for the soul. Whether we publish it for the world to see, or write the words for our own eyes only, writing is healing. It can help ease the pains of heartbreak and deceit, and it can contain the joys of special days and beloved people.
Readers, will you write today?
