When evening ends, and it becomes night, there’s a new sort of magic that fills the air. Society slows down to a crawl, silence begins to cloak the world, and it’s time for relaxation. While many people are seeking the comfort of their beds those of us who are night crawlers begin our productivity.
Laptop open in front of me, my fingers race across the keyboard recording the craziness that exists in my psyche. I picture my brain is a small office room. Along the walls are file cabinets with open drawers and papers sticking out of folders. If you understand the system, there is order to the chaos. However, the one person that knows is often as confused as the rest.
Recently my focus has been on healing personal emotional issues stemming from my past. Searching through these folders, I have discovered the existence of mystery files. Unfortunately, the key to reading them is not in my possession.
Hidden memories, blocked memories, lay dormant within these files waiting to be brought to light. Bloody sores, deep wounds contained in these files need repair and healing. While they remain unreachable, an oozing infection leaking out affects my thinking patterns.
For over two years I have been working to unlock those files. Disturbing dreams contain familiar symbolism hinting at a key. During the day thoughts are interrupted by the appearance of flashbacks that never remain long enough to be understood.
Writing can be a part of the key I need. Through free writing, letting thoughts flow without direct focus, my psyche can open the folders enough to catch a glimpse of the files within. However, I often find myself unable to relax enough to write without a particular purpose.
My best chances to unlock those memories is at night when the moon is bright, and the world is dark. In moments such as this, I have no distractions to use as excuses. My only restraint is a fear of the truth.
Do I want to know what those files contain?
