These days, people put a lot of importance on what other people think. It is a traumatic event to find out someone doesn’t like us. But, I’m here to tell you it’s OK. Let them think whatever they want.
People are so judgmental these days. There seems to be an overwhelming desire to make everyone identical and squash individuality. But how boring would that be.
There’s also a lot of self-righteous people who believe everyone else should conform to their way of thinking and doing. Let them, but don’t be them.
It can be hard to find out that someone else thinks poorly of you. We all want to be liked, even loved. And yet, there will always be those who just don’t like you. They might not even have a good reason why.
Think about it. Are there people that you would prefer not to be around? You’d be lying if you said there weren’t. So, why would we expect everyone else to like us too?
Sometimes people go beyond just not liking someone and actually gossip and talk behind their back to get others to join in their dislike. This is uncharitable behavior from the get-go. But if we are the victim, there’s nothing we can do. Trying to defend ourselves only ends up making us look weak.
If someone is talking about you, let them. I know that sounds hard, but let them. First of all, talk doesn’t last very long. It only lasts until the next big thing comes along to take attention away from you.
Secondly, gossiping makes people look foolish. Telling tales about someone else is frowned upon by most good people. So, the one talking about you is more than likely being talked about as well.
Don’t BE them. Don’t be the one to “return the favor” by talking about them behind their back. It’s demeaning and makes you look just as bad as them.
People will say whatever they want, whether it is true or not. It is our own actions that will show whether they are lying or not. How we behave shows our own character.
People who don’t know us will not know whether it is true or not. People who do know us will. What a stranger thinks should not matter to us. If they believe the lies, let them.
It is our own actions that will show people our true character. If we behave as badly as those who slander our name, then we are no better. But if we just live our lives the best we can and let them do whatever they are going to do, our own light will shine brighter than any darkness they choose to cast upon us.
Others may think or say anything they want about us. By our actions, we will show whether their words are truth or a lie.
